Offloading strategies for mobile devices with energy harvesting capabilities
Contact names: Dr. Mireille Sarkiss
Institution: CEA-LIST
Application deadline:
Description: the ESR will focus on the design, implementation and performance evaluation of various offloading strategies for mobile devices with energy harvesting capabilities. Several cloud assisted optimisations will be carried out, where part of the computational burden is offloaded to Cloud services or to more energy rich network devices, such as BSs. These strategies will consider the application type, the type of data being processed, the residual energy reserve of the node, the mobility and the energy harvesting status. Besides this main project, this ESR will be in charge of coordinating the energy consumption campaigns that will be carried out within WP2 to characterize the energy consumption figures of mobile devices, as well as the corresponding battery and energy harvesting models.
Expected Results: allocation of processing/radio schedulers for end user devices including offloading functionalities. The development of a prototype including software (both for the device and the cloud) and harvesting hardware.
Mobility Schedule: The ESR will be mainly at CEA-LIST. After 20 months, the candidate will stay for 8 months at Athonet to analyse the implementation issues and validate offloading strategies in the core network procedures under the supervision of Gianluca Verin.
